The first English translation of the autobiography of the son of a Salamanca bookseller who was in turn hermit, bull-fighter, quack doctor, astrologer and professor of mathematics. The original appeared in parts between 1743 and 1758, and was slightly abridged and re-arranged for this edition. (Folio Society). 8¾" x 5¼", 224pp, quarter black buckram, black marbled paper sides with pale-gold blocked joining rule; pale-gold blocked spine lettering and decoration, hardback. Illustrated in monochrome by Harold Bennett (frontispiece and within the text).
Very slightly sunned spine; name stamp and written date on front paste-down; slight browning to free endpapers; very good plus, complete with very good (slight splash to one side by end, slight edge-wear, slight marks) sound, slip-case.
